April is Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month, so we wanted to take a moment to write a little something.  Many of you may know it as Autism Awareness Month, but over time this has been shifting to acceptance. Why acceptance?  Because acceptance requires action! Chances are you know at least one person with autism, and I would take a gander that they don’t have the same set of skills or challenges.  Autism has a very wide spectrum and what looks like a child throwing a fit for not getting what they want may be a meltdown for things not going as planned.  With acceptance we hope that our communities will support the unique skill set that many individuals have and how our world is so much better with minds that work in so many different ways.  To sum it up for April and all year long treat all people including those with autism with respect, listen and learn so that all people feel welcome in our world!
